The assignment is supposed to simulate the experience of an anthropologist in a research site for the first time.
For this assignment you are to sit/stand, as well as walk around in a public setting, such as a park, street, , etc…, and take detailed notes of the activities taking place (I do not want you to take notes on at the College, at your place of employment, or on the train, ferry, or bus). You are to pretend that this is a new setting for you, thus you will want to take notes on the minutest activities. The assignment is supposed to simulate the experience of an anthropologist in a research site for the first time. You are only observing, DO NOT talk to anyone.
1) After an hour or two of observations, you will then write 500-600 words about what you have observed in a well-organized summary. What I want is a detailed description of the activities taking place. Ex. if you are watching a team sport, take notes on how the game works, how the teammates interact with one another, how the spectators interact, etc.
2) End your summary with a few questions you would investigate if you were to do a more in-depth, participant observational study of this public space.
